I am a bit more optimistic on this front.  :)

If the web were to become an oligopoly of Google & Facebook then there would be few traffic sources & opportunities / a whack from either one of them can be a death sentence. But if the big beasts are fighting one another at other layers of the value chain, any associated fracturing should lead to more market edges & opportunities, especially if a recession clears away some of the web 3.0 bubble stuff (Tinder for dogs, over a dozen different vegan meal delivery services, etc.).
