Ah, but in a long enough time scale, so will gold. It's the "when" that counts.
That said, I am glad I didn't buy when my neighbor was emailing me multiple times per week telling me to get into BTC before it was too late. He even gave me $100 in BTC just to get me started. It was right at the absolute peak. I asked him to quit emailing me on this topic and his anti-vax emails (recently retired physician for God's sake). I wonder what he would be sending me now.
My reasons were not so much the financial aspect - I'm willing to buy a lottery ticket now and then, though I haven't done so in at least 20 years. It was the energy cost of BTC that I just find immoral from a cost/benefit point of view. From a carbon emissions point of view, it's like burning money to run your printing press at the mint.
