Yes, roughly akin, but Microsoft lacks the fanbois the Alphabet folks have.

Not allowing a change of default search provider is a bit rough, but then
- Google was the first big company which pushed address bar as search box with Chrome
- Google pays to be default in other browsers like Opera & Safari
- for many users Google has reset default search providers in Chrome after the fact, though this aspect is rarely discussed publicly & when it was mentioned they did it from the malware perspective
