It should be faster than accessing the M.2 via USB 3, which is the way I am doing it, but my concern is that that hat sits right on top of the processor and will interfere with cooling.  If you are going to use a Pi like a desktop computer you are going to generate heat.  The case I use is passively cooled but it has a metal plate touching directly against the heat sink.  There may be enough room for a fan under there, but I'm not sure.    If the M.2 sat underneath the Pi it would be a lot better.

>> cooling

I was surprised how my Pi heated up once I put it in the case. I bought a fan, but since I was trying to keep the power draw low, I opted to run it open, no case, no fan and it is super solid. Aside from when we lose all power (shore, solar and battery), it has not rebooted in something like 2 years.
