Blog posting from Android vs. iOS
« on: April 27, 2013, 05:35:28 PM »
So I have to maintain a blog again.  I want to post links to interesting articles with some comments.

In my work flow on tablets I want to find an interesting article >> Share >> WordPress app (captures title and URL a bit like you would to Twitter) >> Edit >> Post.

Android let's me do all that!

iOS however, mostly keeps my sharing limited to FB, Twitter and email.  I could post by email but that limits the editing options too much.  So in this instance iOS is a bit of a hindrance, with Android the more apps you have the more you can share with.

I really do love the share hook on android. It just makes sense. I'm now so used to it that I wish windows had it too.

Not tried it myself but judging by the description that should do the trick for you, no?

The sharing thing is why I like using a tablet so much over a laptop.  Its addictive.

IW it is the ability of one app to hand off to another that is the problem.  I have the WordPress app on iPad but Safari, Zite, News Republic, etc won't Share with it.

As Rooftop said better than me, each app in Android has a hook so other apps can shares with them over and above the usual FB and Twitter hooks.

Its just plumbing but it may be enough of a rationalization for me to get a faster Android tablet.  My HP Touchpad  converted to Android works well but I'm not sure I want it for front line everyday use.

Related: Because of the above, I was half ready to order a new Nexus 10 tablet.  But I started using my old HP Touchpad running Android instead.  Sort of to my surprise, it ain't half bad.  First it runs Android better than it ran Webos.  Second, the dual core 1.2 Ghz processor in the TP isn't too far behind the 1.7 dual core chip in the Nexus 10.  Third, the TP has those nice speakers.  Yeah it isn't lightning fast for games but I don't play them anyway.

Downside is the weight of the TP.  Screen could be higher res. but I can live with this.  Battery does not last all that long especially when playing audio while working.

Still I can't see any reason to upgrade right now.  I think I will wait until the next generation of large Nexus Tablets comes out, and use the heck out of this TP in the meantime.

Maybe this is why 10 inch Android tablet sales are soft, the 3rd Gen tablets are not offering significant advantages over the 2nd Gen tablets that are still for sale new used and refurbished at a discount.
