I don't fully trust Privacy Badger's judgement
« on: August 18, 2018, 04:49:32 PM »
Come on, "adservex.media.net" isn't tracking me?  Bullshit.

Me neither.  It blocks image pulls.  Okay I understand why but it just isn't very sophisticated.  Still I do like the set it and forget it design. It's not overly needy.

PB says I currently have 5709 "potential tracking domains."  Occasionally,  I go through and set all those it has marked as allowed to block (yellow) if I do not immediately recognize the site or I only go there infrequently.

delivery.swid.switchadhub.com

Come on, PB! You should nuke that one just on the name alone.

But you do get spoiled.  During the brief time I was hunting down the name of some software without PB I had cr*p popping up, dropping down and coming in sideways and this on well known "respectable" tech mag sites.

Once I figured out what was missing I installed PB right away.

You can supposedly export/import your old PB file, btw.  No need to rebuild the db on the new laptop.

Don't trust Privacy Badger? Try out Privacy Possum

According to one article, "Privacy Possum is Privacy Badger on Steroids". It's made by a former EFF guy who worked on PB.

Tried it.  Was not working with Vivaldi on Win10.  It kept saying it was disabled.  It's a great idea tho.

Privacy Badger alternative Privacy Possum

Been testing Privacy Possum for a few weeks on Firefox, mostly on Linux, and haven't encountered issues. I'm thinking of expanding it to other browsers as well.

Looks like the author has added some fixes very recently.

I just added it to Vivaldi and it seems to be working.

WTF, "shoppingshadow" isn't tracking?  That does it! -->

---> 1 hr later
---->2 hrs later

OK, out of 3700+ cookies, I've blocked all but 45 of them.
