IPv6
« on: October 14, 2015, 05:59:00 PM »
Are your sites/software configured for IPv6 yet?

https://www.google.com/intl/en/ipv6/statistics.html

In the past couple of months ARIN had ran out of IPv4 addresses to allocate, and maybe/not they will reclaim ranges from people not using them.

I've never paid much attention to configuring things with IPv6 in mind, but really should.

I think by default Apache/nginx will listen on port 80 for both IP versions.

Validators

I just found one of my sites is not fully setup for IPv6 (tested as "almost ready" meaning that everything is set except the AAAA Record, which makes sense because it's on the same VPS as sites that are IPv6 ready).

>> they will reclaim ranges from people not using them

I imagine that in the short run there will be some value. Once IPv6 is rolled out, though, it will have about as much utility and cachet as a rotary phone (maybe a bit more b/c the phone system as a whole doesn't really work with pulse dial anymore whereas I don't see any reason why an IPv4 address would ever be completely phased out).

I'm worried about what IPv6 will mean for my affiliate stuff. That is the main reason I haven't configured IPv6 yet.

Just received this email from Hurricane Electric.

It makes interesting reading.
