I don't think that's Geothermal, Geothermal is when you get deep enough to get heat from the earths core.  These folks are just storing their own energy.

Will there be enough to heat the buildings?  Depends on the insulation, and I would assume they will use a heat pump.  Lots of inefficiencies creeping in.

This is why we in the Midwest have the left and right coasts, and California in particular, we let them take the point man position and experiment in the wild to see what happens.  Sometimes it's good. Sometimes it's bad.  Sometimes everyone is left scratching their heads.  ;-)
