Does anyone know of a good desktop email newsletter system?

I've got a client who needs to be using something like mailchimp at the very least.  They need to be able to send decent emails, manage unsubscribes, track delivery etc. However the tight sods are not going to go for a per subscriber fee - even at $0.01/shot

Running lists around 20k subscribers. 1 mailing/month max.

We used to use a desktop package here years back.  Wasn't great, but did the job.  Wondering whether they have come on much since and whether anyone had recommendations.

That thread is mostly covering hosted solutions.  Normally that is what I would go with, but they do of course come with an ongoing fee that this client won't stump up for.  Sadly their mailings have been so poorly handled over recent years that they don't see value in their email list - which means they won't pay on a per send basis.  Mad I know.

I'll trawl it again though and check out the ones I don't know in case I missed something

ah, sorry, speed reading :)

some freebies in there if the list isn't huge or so they can test before splashing the cash.
