That is pretty amazing.  I could imagine AR for real estate but never thought about this use.

That is pretty amazing.  I could imagine AR for real estate but never thought about this use.

I've mentioned a few times how eye-opening Scoble's 2016 talk at Pubcon was. I almost skipped because I thought it would be fluff. It blew me away.

Scoble demoed prototypes of both uses (real estate and shopping) and many more. It didn't blow me away because it was coming, but because it was "here" - Scoble kept saying "these are not prototypes. These are live screen captures.

At the time that he said 2017 was your last chance to be a first mover in AR/VR as a small shop, because the big money was coming in fast and the standards would rise fast. Seems to be on schedule. His prediction was that we would see a few apps for 2017, but he predicted that 2018 would be the year that an AR/VR "toy" would be the must-have Christmas item.

Once phones have 3D sensors, that's a game changer. At the time, he noted that the next iPhone would have a 3D dual camera (though it looks like that will only be on the X for now) and at that point, things start to get really crazy with AR/VR. He claimed that 3D sensors in the near future (before 2020) will be accurate enough to take the pulse of someone standing near you.... like in a job interview.

Exciting times.

The latest big disruption was smart phones. Now we have ar/vr and personal assistants coming into their own at about the same time which I think will be more disruptive than mobile was.
