>watching others play video games
My Mrs says this to me (born in 78 vs my 81) - makes me an older millennial... but I do watch some YT videos on a game or two, just when I'm done for the day.
Dunno, there's a few older games that I used to play (<2005) that are still relatively popular, it's better than watching regular TV anyway. I think if you invest an amount of time in [thing], doesn't matter what it is, you'll be interested in insights. The extreme end of it is 'speed runs' and watching (youngish) people melt down at not being able to complete an inconsequential computer game in the way they set out. Also enjoy some nostalgic stuff about the Amiga 500/600/1200 which was a childhood thing before the web, I like that the content is there. A lot of my social circle at the time had other systems, and all this was before online patter.
Watched one about Doom recently (which is prob more a pre-millennial thing) about speed runs and found it interesting, given how many times I came home from school and enjoyed a bit of it.
I do watch regular series/movies on Netflix and Prime though. Maybe part of the angle is a lot of the content is free on YT/Twitch for people unwilling/unable to subscribe to mainstream content.
Great thing about the mainstream pop being able to publish content is that it can get more niche, but maybe adds to the stuff you don't want to see.

Definitely seen those 'too niche' videos as well! The YT algo seems a whole lot more slack than G's organic efforts.
