That's right, TikTok — which on Feb. 27 got hit with a $5.7 million civil penalty from the FTC for illegally collecting data on children under the age of 13 — asked users to fork over their government IDs. In order to continue making and consuming viral video content.

TikTok just locked out a ton of users, and people can't take it

I'm so out of it. I have never heard of TikTok and had to look up MAU (which they don't even bother to define in the Techcrunch article).

I just spent 5 minutes on it -- very youth oriented, I can;t see anybody over 25 spending much time on it.

Like 4chan & reddit, a lot of traffic but tough to monetize.  Games, maybe?

Hello, person who is, statistically speaking, a human adult aged approximately “millennial” to “boomer.” The analytics suggest a high likelihood that you’re aware there is an app named TikTok, and a similarly high likelihood that you’re not totally sure what it’s all about.

They said Instagram was for kids, as with several other new social thingies.
