Having run a tourism network, what to do about bad news (hurricanes, for example) was an issue.

We always say "Never use the C-word" (closed).
If you say "One of the four entrances into Yosemite will be closed for four hours this morning" it invariably winds up on at least one outlet like USA Today or NPR as "Yosemite National Park is closed"
This is different though - in theory people are going to TripAdvisor for unbiased reviews, but if they are scrubbing the worst of them, even if just because of legal fears, it creates another set of legal problems, as in this case
