I feel like there have been moments in the maturing of the internet and search engines where there were tremendous opportunity.  There were probably some that were completely off my radar, but three stick out to me.

1) Cloaking
2) AdSense farming
3) Affiliate arbitrage

I was heavily involved in Cloaking back in the cowboy day and selling traffic to all kinds of companies.  That was a lot of fun and I felt like a wizard.

I pretty much missed the boat with Adsense, just dabbled and only earned modest money from it.

Affiliate arbitrage was very, very good to me until it wasn't.  It burned red hot for a couple of years then became harder and harder to do.  For a while it was nearly free money.

I wonder what type of opportunities are on that level now?  I wonder if I'd see it if it were in front of me, or am I too set in my perspective?

I think you would see it now.

Bitcoin is another I missed.

A UK opportunity I played on the edge of was property. I saw a friend paying off the price of buying a flat in 5 years (yes 20% return roughly,) but I only bought 2. Now you get 5% if you are lucky and manage it well. If you are unlucky and get a bad tenant, you are scuppered.

I think everyone is more tuned in to these opportunities, and so they do not last long, and its more difficult to make money on.

There... proved it, I am getting old.
