WP Datafeed Plugins
« on: November 12, 2010, 07:14:23 PM »
Anyone have any experience with datafeed plugins?

The best one I have used is http://blogpig.com/products/csvpig/. It is pretty simple to use and does a good job of quickly building a WP site based off a datafeed.

I have also tried http://www.csv2post.com/ and it is decent but not quite as good as CSVPig.

The other one I know of is http://www.datafeedr.com/ but I have never tried it.

You guys have any experience with any of these? Are there any others I should check out?

I have been using them to build some simple, quick super targeted sites like http://giantsworldserieshats.com/ and http://aluminumstockpots.com/. Nothing super exciting about those sites but I have been seeing them get 1st page listings in Google in about 2-3 days. I usually just go manually comment on some related blogs, give a link or two from other related sites I have, and they are good to go.

We use : http://www.digitalquill.co.uk/datafeedplugin/

It has a few bugs, and support isn't great,  but it works OK for what we needed at the time - building and updating feeder sites from a clients csv file.

It will read the datafeed fom a a remote source, feed it through a template, so some categorisation.

If he ever fixes the bugs, it will be perfect for my aff stuff - I seem to recall that the bugs were in how it filters which items get imported or not.

If it sounds like it might suit your needs, I can give you access to an installation to play about  - PM me if this would help.

(I might also want to pick your brains on the others you mention once I have 'whacked' a few irritating client-moles)

For the exact match term only or other terms as well?

http://www.datafeedr.com/ - man I hate monthly pricing

Both. Depends on the site. Most all of them are there for the exact match keyword but they also get quite a few other long tail listings as well. There have been about 60 keywords that have sent traffic for my three different Giants World Series sites. The exact match usually sends the most but there are other long tail keywords sending traffic as well.

I'm with 4Eyes (hi Colin btw). I use the Digitalquill plugin. The earlier versions up to 2.05 were pretty buggy but 2.05 is fairly decent.

It doesn't handle massive feeds very well, or at least it doesn't on the servers I play around with, but it is extremely easy to configure and uses columns as numbers and you can put a feed in very simply. I tend to break the feed down into smaller size files, but that does make updates difficult to handle. So, if I am honest it's still a tinkering tool for me.

The same developers also have a product for Amazon, but I haven't tried that yet.

Both products are one time purchases and the cost is £25 so the fact they don't provide much support is not that big a deal for me.

Hi Jim :)

I can't remember what the bug was exactly, but it was more than compensated by the rest of the features.

I will see if I can replicate it again - be interesting to know whether is it something you have seen in any of your installs.

I will check out digitalquill and datafeedr and see how they compare. Thanks and I will report back as to how they compare to what I have used.

First post woohoo.

Hi All,
don't know if you're still looking but I use datafeed studio.  Martin is very hands-on with support and you can download a trial to see if it fits.  He has developed plugins for wordpress, and it integrates with Amazon out of the box, as well as auto updating prices and products details.

Thinks it's about £80 but I've found it to be value for money.
