Monetization / Drupal module Affiliate Suite by Money Scripts
« on: October 05, 2012, 09:10:32 AM »
Anyone used it / programs using it? In theory, it looks like its a reasonable basic aff system, but real world experience is always better than reading the authors own blurb...

Hardware & Technology / Home printing a warp core
« on: August 04, 2012, 04:46:59 PM »
Seriously, that would sell. Or a lightsaber. The Venn diagram of "3d printer owners" and "ST/SW fans" would be 2 circles drawn nearly on top of each other. Charge $15 for the d/l. You'd overheat a T1 line

One of Theos' favourites, this : http://www.kongregate.com/games/JuicyBeast/burrito-bison-revenge

Check the "Get more money" button in the shop screen. Get in game currency in return for other virtual currency, and / or actions on social platforms

Water Cooler / Google on Sky News

Right now, I just turned it on, and there's some dude from G being interviewed only moderately incompetently by 2 arts graduate journos about the recent privacy policy changes.

They also have the daily poll showing, "Do interent users have a right to expect privacy?", or similar. 96 : 4 in favour of "yes"

Hardware & Technology / Cheap image hosting - who's best?
« on: February 24, 2012, 01:17:36 PM »
Anyone got any pointers for decent, cheap (ish) image hosting, preferably not sharing IPs with adult stuff? Anyone I should definitely avoid?

Water Cooler / DuckDuckGo
« on: February 20, 2012, 12:09:04 PM »
Spent a chunk of the morning really playing with it. Now set as default search. It's like someone turned Google back about 10 years. Oh, and took the trouble to ask me which of the more advanced bits I wanted. Awesomwe

Few good names on the speaker list, anyone thinking of haunting the hotel bar etc?

Water Cooler / Google+ circles
« on: February 08, 2012, 05:23:34 PM »
Playing with G+, wants me to start adding people to "circles". Top of my list, ukgimp, Shawn Collins, PaulH, Rupert, Chris Clarkson, Matt Cutts...

Temptation. Nearly. Overwhelming

Econsultancy are incentivising their existing users to sell their products. Live leaderboard here :

A genuinely innovative, social way of using the interwebs. And not a "like" button or farm implement in sight.

An old smoking buddy of mine is now IT support here

http://www.fusionio.com

Short version : Flash memory in the 160GB+ bracket that replaces RAID. For applications where you have heavy I/O requirements (heavy duty d/base lookups etc), can improve access times, reduce latency, reduce I/O bottlenecks etc. They have Wozniak on board as Chief Scientist, apparently

Water Cooler / Anyone got an entry level SEO post in London?
« on: November 17, 2010, 10:40:09 AM »
Someone I worked with at Cheapflights years ago is looking at moving jobs, and getting back into interweb stuff. She's been doing retail management for the last few years, so not a lot of recent experience, and she would need training up. She is pretty sharp though, keen to learn, excellent work ethic etc. If I were in any position to hire staff, I'd hire her, put it that way.

Anyone got anything, or know someone who does?

Traffic / Google to become an affiliate
« on: November 16, 2010, 10:01:27 AM »
Well, it was always going to happen eventually

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2010/nov/15/google-targets-fashion-market-boutique

They are going after the fashion sector, with a site called boutiques.com. And Sarah Jessica Parker. "Do no evil", my shiny metal a##.... Try putting the domain into your address box for a dose of 401 goodness.

On a (possibly) related note, Ben Edelman is after them for hardcoding themselves on finance and health terms etc, and it will be facinating to see where boutiques.com debuts...
