Web Development / Re: You might not need JQuery
« on: November 07, 2019, 08:53:05 AM »
>>People need one little thing, like an accordion, but all they find are plugins for JQuery, so instead of 10 lines of JS, they have 84 KB of JQuery and seven lines of Javascript.
Couldn't have said it better.

JQuery has been the golden standard for more than 10 years and even though there are still valid use cases it is mostly used by lazy developers.

The problem is that 99% of all javascript related Google queries will give you a SERP full of JQuery solutions so it's really hard to move on.

Google PageSpeed Insights might be the needed accelerator to speed up the transition to Vanilla JS because downloading and parsing a big library like JQuery will screw up your PageSpeed score.

> I realize that just because the overnight rate from a central bank goes negative, that doesn't mean that your mortgage goes negative, but that is the end point of that logic. And that's where it seems so squirrelly.

That is the reality in Denmark. We can get a 10 year mortage with negative interest but then you have to pay fees.

I will never understand why they immediately after the referendum, without any kind of plan, triggered article 50. Job’s done – let’s go the pub.

They could have used the past two years to form some sort of plan before triggering article 50.

This is good news.

Of course it would help if people stopped throwing plastic in rivers:

The world has all the plastic we will ever need. We just have to recycle it.

Earlier this year scientists announced that they have improved a naturally occurring enzyme, which will reduce plastic to its natural building blocks. There are many types of plastic and each type probably needs a different enzyme and needs to work on a large production scale. There is hope.

Haven’t you heard about the super rich Nigerian that died a couple of months ago. The local police found a billion in cash in his house. Apparently he had tried to give it all away but nobody would answer his emails.
