ok but I'm wanting to resell websites where clients can build their own websites via an online website builder with limited features and they can unlock premium features for a monthly fee. I know this is how webs.com and weebly.com and others do it. So I was wondering if there's any way to do this from scratch.... Please Help!!!

I was looking through the internet and wanting to find how to start and build a business like Webs.com and Weebly.com? I couldn't find anything answering my need. How do I start offering DIY web creator services to people who want to build sites on their own (free and paid tiers based on features offered). Any ideas as to how i can approach this and what tools i need to do such?

Thanks!

Hi,

I want to build a math e-learning site using Learndash and also offer collaboration for the students that would use my site (basically for helping each other out with math questions and difficulties). I am wondering whether I should use a full scale forum plugin (e.g. bbpress et al) or just a Q&A plugin (e.g. DW Q&A plugin) to achieve this goal.

I would appreciate some views and suggestions on which I should choose and why, or if I should go with both... I'm not sure if it makes a lot of sense to go with both but I'm throwing it out there... so all tech gurus let me know..

Thanks!

Thanks littleman, I still do appreciate your input... and yes, I have Torben but I started this new thread to try to get some new insight specifically on this comparison between Prestashop and Woocommerce.

Thanks Littleman,

I agree, but besides the security issue with Wordpress, what are your thoughts on Woocommerce as a platform for launching a online business with the potential for huge growth? I also fully agree that Prestashop is great, but the support is not as easily accessible as wordpress' support... at least in my opinion. Any thoughts?

Web Development / Woocommerce vs Prestashop

Hi,

If there are any e-commerce gurus, specialists, enthusiasts or even just someone with relevant knowledge out there, I would appreciate some advice.
I am about to start up my first e-commerce store and would like some advice on the advantages/disadv of using either platforms: Prestashop & Woocommerce. I know that Woocommerce is relatively new and is termed a "plugin" as opposed to a full-fledged e-commerce platform like Prestashop. I have personally heard of the praises of both platforms, but I'd really like some help in understanding which is better in starting off my store.

I know that because Woocommerce is built on the Wordpress platform, stability and robustness etc are impeccable, but I'm concerned that because it is termed a "plugin" and not a "dedicated" software, that it may be problematic where scalability is concerned (meaning, the ability to handle heavy growth, e.g. 50,000+ products/skus) though access to themes and plugins are heavenly.

Prestashop however, has the full scale ecommerce capability but access to plugins and themes etc are a bit, well... a lot less convenient than Woocommerce, which may require lots of custom work---and for a non-programmer like me, it may cost handsomely and money at the moment, is a premium.

So is it worth it going with Prestashop? what are the ins and outs? or should I go with Woocommerce?

Thanks!

Thanks for the response... but I really still would like to know if woocoommerce can handle product catalogs that are over 2000 products... is there anybody out there with the experience with this "newcomer" that can offer some insight?

Hi, I am new to ecommerce and I've been hearing of the woes of working with Magento and the praises of Woocommerce. I am more tending to Woocommerce to start my first online store. My concern though is if Woocommerce is scalable enough to handle my store's growth when it moves beyond 2000 products and/sku's, say 30,000 - as I intend on growing my store(s) as the primary business model (and not just as a supplement to a main brick n mortar version store). I am also considering the possibility of Prestashop, but due to the ease of use and stability of the Wordpress platform... my tendency is Woocommerce in this planning phase... any advice?
