I don't know these guys, but I am glad it is getting some attention.  Hopefully it discourages others from cookie stuffing.

Traffic / Re: how long before Big G gives indented slots in the serps?
« on: February 27, 2013, 01:24:20 PM »
I've been seeing that as quite common since the Jan 23rd update at least.

Once you drill past the 2nd page, a handful of sites tend to dominate the next 7-8 pages.

Astonished. Google want to cut their bandwidth bill by creating a new image format?

You'd think it would be outright blinking obvious. The Sun apparently doesn't think so. Oh, lordy...

Not busy enough with traffic enough for that.

However, plenty of experience with Wordpress on busy sites before and never had a problem, so long as it was hosted on my own server. My shop is.

Marketing / Re: Author rank - making it scale

I thought only the spammers and media whores had author pages set up?

Seem to be quite a few Google+ votes being bought at the moment regardless. :D

Traffic / Google tries to hide UK results - again
« on: November 22, 2012, 01:24:24 PM »
Looks like Google are back to trying to denigrate the UK user experience, by hiding the link to UK results in a drop down menu - therefore subjecting most of us to good old US results, headed by Wikipedia.

Screenshot attached.

Dear Google: just because you're confident about your IP targeting, doesn't make it relevant to your users!! Your general UK IP targeting for local search is extremely poor, too, k, thanks.

EDIT: Oh, looks like I can't add attachments. And the post goes into something of a loop if you try and post one as you can't edit the attachments box, and you can post because there's a URL there.

Basically, anti-money laundering. Happened to me a couple of times with different accounts, but doesn't take too long to fix.

Are you sure it's a fight? Looks very homo-erotic flicking through here.

Hm, seems a strange time to be adding forums - thought these were generally suffering post Panda/Penguin?

And three forums with such a potential overlap? Sounds like overkill and a headache running them as separate entities and more so if he ever considers merging them.

Parlo un po d'Italiano. :)

Was in Rome last month and loved the language especially. :)

Is Sant'Agata Feltria the small hilly town in the photos? Looks amazing. :)

Damn. And there was me hoping Google was finally getting some kind of payback for screwing over the small webmasters who made them.

Traffic / Dear Google: the iPod is not an iPhone
« on: October 09, 2012, 11:57:53 AM »
Whenever I search for news on the iPod 5th generation, Google keeps giving me stories on the iPhone instead:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&cr=countryUK|countryGB&biw=1600&bih=750&tbs=ctr%3AcountryUK|countryGB&q=ipod+release+date&oq=ipod+release+date&gs_l=serp.3..0i7l9j0.50678.50844.0.51131.2.2.0.0.0.0.103.202.1j1.2.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1.odnHP7u_DJg

Think that pretty much sums Google up at present.

Bing, meanwhile, seems to know the difference:

Hardware & Technology / Re: hands free backup services
« on: October 05, 2012, 10:51:15 AM »
Are you looking to backup the entire account, ie, files and databases, or just databases?

I have something in place for my most important sites that emails copies of the database every week, which goes straight to a dedicated Gmail account.

Never had a problem with Hostgator - been with them for years - they've had a few rough patches from expanding too fast, but have felt settled for a long time now.
