It's a hell of a milestone and I find myself in a reflective mood.  So, the old and wise of the Core, what say you?

Traffic / Re: Ousting a Lowlife who has FB name of a domain of mine

I'm pretty sure FB will work with you to claim it.  You may want to do a little PPC advertising with them first, which will help you catch their attention.   I was promotion a band that had non-official fan pages using their name, and FB was eager to work with the band to reclaim their name space.

That's depressing.  I guess the only consolation is that the total search volume should still be increasing even though the % of organic search traffic is diminishing.

Traffic / Re: Google killing referral data via SSL
« on: October 19, 2011, 06:39:54 PM »
Not a good thing for SEO.  That said, it would be trivial for browsers to start carrying referer data for SSL to non-SSL.  The data is there, it just needs to be passed on.

The silver lining?  I could see this being good for affiliates as it makes it that much harder for merchants to deconstruct their affiliates traffic sources.

Its amazing how high up those balloons could raise -- you could actually see the curvature of the Earth.

If you could keep the costs low you might be able to make it fly with advertising revenue.  Perhaps make each entry page themeable like a digital scrapbook.  Make it so people could build albums like "Summer 2011 Family Vacation" etc.

That was pretty cool.  I've never thought of 'art as lie' before.

>Auto ads generated

Can you explain that one a bit more.  Are you talking about Ebay deep-auto placing text-ads in volume for auction items?

Grnidone: I didin't keep any of the 40" pants.  I'll do a before & after eventually, but I don't think its time yet.  Maybe we could get Dras to do one first.

Rumbas: Nice work, keep at it.  Hope you make your goal.

4Eyes:  That's a very good start!  20kg, that's 44lbs.

Dras:  I've been seeing a lot of people do that type of workout these days, sort of like Cross-Fit, very intense, and people just keep moving.  I'd imagine its great for your cardio-system.

Its been a while, so how are you all doing these days?

I've gone full Atkins, for a while.  I have a personal goal to make by my 40th birthday at the end of this month.  Going low carb is interesting.  I definitely feel the difference in the gym.  This is the first time I've done deep Ketosis, keeping my carbs at around 20 grams for the last two weeks.

Traffic / Re: Bing like SEOs... whats going on?
« on: October 05, 2011, 04:13:56 PM »
This makes sense, MS is the underdog at this point, they are struggling for market share.  Google has been tough on SEOs over the years, they've also been tough on affiliates.  In recent years its felt down-right antagonistic.  Meanwhile Google has a commanding lead in searches, and PPC earnings.

MS needs to have SEOs on their side, with only 30% of the market share many people ignore Bing/Yahoo and just concentrate on Google.  Being friendly to SEOs and not antagonistic can help them grow their business as the SEOs (Consultants) bring their customer's attention to Bing.

Did the upgrade, one thing that annoyed me was the dropping of the connection type in the URL bar.  To undo go to about:config and set browser.urlbar.trimURLs to false.  I am not sure why everyone feels the need to dumb down the user experience.
