Good to know.  Does it work with domains that don't have the http://, say like domain.com?

Pmac, was there anything unusual about your post?  Was there an attachment or anything like that?

With the exception of apps, ringtones, and music, is it unanimous that mobile traffic isn't worth coveting.

The site is being hosted at JaguarPC, which has a pretty good reputation, but we've had our share of problems so far.

Also, Heather, the nature of this board is such that we don't necessarily want to attract attention from an institution we are referencing.    On our old board we were very disabled all links not because we didn't trust each other but because we didn't want prying eyes.   I know this place is accessible from the outside, but why push it given the nature of much of our business.

Yeah, they pulled their PPC engine a coupe of months ago, right before Yahoo threw in the towel on PPC.  It didn't convert as well as the big engines, but with a lot of fine tunning I made it work.  The landscape is getting uncomfortably consolidated.

I'd imagine that they are going down.

In my mind the scenario goes like this:
Someone wants to search for "blue widgets size twelve", they type "blue" and get served ads.  At this point the see ads and some will click on one.  Obviously the searcher isn't very likely to find what they want from such a broadly matched ad, so he hits the back button and continues to type "blue widg..." then another serp appears this time more relevant, he then clicks on the top spot and sees something that is closer to what he was expecting.  He may buy here or not.  If he doesn't then he adds more terms to his search and finally gets to "blue widgets size twelve", goes again to the top spot and most likely settles there for the purchase.

Obviously, not everybody will do searches like this, but I bet a good number do.  Maybe even 5%.  So, what we have is the EPC going down for the advertisers, the searcher clicking on the free results even less, and ads being displayed three times as much will less relevant targeting.  Also, you have the shorter and often more expensive terms being displayed before the long tail terms get shown.  Brilliant for Google, pretty bad for everyone else.

And with Facebook coming up with a Groupon killer, I would chalk this one up to another of Yahoo's less than spectacular buys

I think that's a real possibility.  But it sort of reminds me of Netflix vs. Block Buster, I thought that once BB got into mail in DVDs that it would kill Netflix, but instead Netflix killed BB.  So, who knows?

I had a free-software project that brought in at its peak about $6k/month.  Now to get that I had to pull every trick I leaned in both marketing and SEO.  I also hit people over the head with opportunities to donate, buy wares and do monthly contributions.  I made it really easy for them to give.   The project was started without any name recognition, but I think it was the right idea and I had the right timing.  I am not saying its easy, but its possible.

It was put out by a religious organization, but I believe the message is universal.  Basically, we all have our burden and recognizing that fact lets you see individuals as whole people instead of just objects that interfere with your life.

BTW, the glasses thing was borrowed from a movie called "They Live" from 1988.  Though they were used to portray a more cynical message.
