What rep range were you doing?
2  Why We Are Here / Water Cooler / Re: In Atlanta, it's called the Lexus Lane on: December 09, 2017, 07:38:27 PM
A lot of people, including Elon Musk think that congestion is going to get worse as electric, self driving cars become the norm.  Yet, I am wondering if this is really going to happen.  I agree that self-driving car technology will be a force for more cars on the road, but there are other technologies that are also on the rise that may reduce the need for people to get around as much like video conferencing, drones, algorithm based machine delivery systems that aren't dependent on humans.

An example from right now:
I did a couple of interviews with this IT solutions company and they were all video based -- they didn't feel the need to meet in person.  It seemed odd to me, but perfectly normal to the culture of this company.  I think this will become more normal and a lot of white collar work will be done remotely.  Companies will save fortunes in office space.

Ok, some of us haven't posted our commitments yet.  Like before. I am in for 4 days a week of weight training and eating smartly.
4  Why We Are Here / Hardware & Technology / Re: cheapest unsubsidised electricity ever, anywhere, by any technology on: December 08, 2017, 05:54:22 PM
Ten years ago I'd never thought that we would live in a world where we'll never hit peak oil and that there is a real likelihood that fossil fuels will remain in the ground.

From this website it seems like they are big on wind and hydro, but not really solar.  Too bad they put so much effort into gas power.
5  Why We Are Here / Water Cooler / Re: 850 calorie per day diet puts type 2 diabetes in remission on: December 07, 2017, 07:45:22 AM
This isn't really surprising to me.  Type II diabetes is really about a body hitting it's limits in energy storage.  Insulin can't do it's job anymore because all the cells are already super saturated.  There is a lot of evidence that fat cells can't release energy during periods of higher insulin levels.  Running a calorie deficit and maintaining low insulin levels will give a body a chance to shed stored calories.  Once the cells are depleted of excess energy they become insulin sensitive again.

Side note: getting fat is, oddly enough, a way of pushing back diabetes.  The fat growth is locking of excess calories which would result in people coming down with type II faster.  There are folks who basically can not get fat and they go from thin and seemingly healthy straight to diabetes.

I love the clockwork like internals of analog computers.  Its really interesting that they may be bringing it back in a new way.

I know you all know about this but I can't help myself:

I'm in.  I never really stopped, I just felt like I was spamming the board all the time with my exercise/fitness stuff and that enthusiasm was waning.  Happy to start posting again.
8  Why We Are Here / Monetization / Amazon Seller App on: December 06, 2017, 05:35:45 PM
I wouldn't call it groundbreaking, but I do like it.  The app is very convenient for getting snapshots of how your sales are doing.  It gives you a bar graph of daily sales and then if you click on a bar it will do a handy breakdown of what sold and how muck came from each item.

I don't do retail arbitrage, but the app seems like it would be very handy for that as you could scan bar codes and immediately see what the items are selling for on Amazon.

I guess this type of stuff scares me less than most people.  I remember last year they were going to release genetically modified mosquitoes to counter the Zika virus in Florida and they got all up in arms about it.  To me it seems the very real threat of Zika was much more scary than some notion of a Franken-mosquito, especially when the modification was to make them  infertile.

As someone else who was born and raised in California I am glad that we take earthquakes seriously.

Loma Prieta was not fun.
12  Why We Are Here / Water Cooler / Re: Bacteria Can Live In Ice Cubes, But Not In Whisky on: December 05, 2017, 05:29:41 PM
This gets me wondering if a person could survive drinking nothing but whisky for weeks on end.  I would assume that the alcohol percentage is too high and cause the whisky to act as a dietetic and cause the person to dehydrate.
13  Why We Are Here / Water Cooler / Re: NFL to become NTFL on: December 03, 2017, 10:55:52 PM
https://www.vox.com/2017/2/4/14500454/super-bowl-linemen-huge

This video/article is examining how the changes in the rules in the NFL has caused the size of linemen to get bigger.  It doesn't really address the head injury issue, but a reversal of some of this may be part of the solution to lower brain damage.

I saw that today, it totally makes sense with the political situation there.
