I'd say the terrible design of myspace pages had an influence. Animated gifs, auto-play music and vids, 1+ mb page sizes, etc.

Though at the price I'll gladly be considered a bottom feeder.

I just forced off compatibility instead of waiting.

Personally I build a new box with all new stuff. If your existing box has age and stuff is failing, is it worth having another old component start dying in your new rig?

I do leave mine on, running site performance checks and log file dl and analysis and backups and crap like that all night though. So, my main machines run 24/7/365.

I use 64 bit, haven't had any software issues for stuff I run, though I do remember not installing something (don't remember what atm) that wasn't compatible with 64.

Intel procs, personal preference. I've always used them. AMD is better bang for the buck if you're a gamer. Intel is better at multi core performance.

Get as much memory as you want to afford and fits in the mb.

I would go with a ssd for os/apps and a bigger one for data if needed.

Older graphics cards can be iffy if you run them 24/7 and they have their own fans. Again, I like to have all new stuff on a new build and would consider this card:

Grooveshark.com is pretty good too, no audio ads (yet.)

BTW, for some reason last.fm is not playing any ads in opera.

Well I loaded it, I always opt for a fresh install and backup the profile anyway so no problems.

Seems good so far, had to force off compatibility check for one add-on.

seems kind of quick?

Top 5 reasons to upgrade:

1. Added support for CSS animations.
2. Easier to find Do Not Track button.
3. The latest version is more stable.
4. Better support for Android devices.
5. Improved performance.

I'm partial to lenovo, bought out ibm's notebook division.

Not sure where to buy for the UK but I'd pick the best from that list that suited my needs.

Yep, when my stuff went over $100/month I dropped it. Back then they only had 7 or 8 HD channels which is all I watched.

Add the fact you are paying for channels that run ads almost as bad as the big 4, and I have no desire to go back. I don't understand why consumer prices aren't much less, must be a LOT of hands in the pie.

« on: June 09, 2011, 02:24:55 AM »
Yeah, I've not understood the complaints on Vista either, though I did wait on SP1 (or2?) before running it. I heard a lot of problems with the first release but supposedly worked all that out by the time I loaded it 2 1/2 years ago. I guess we'll have to chalk it up to operator error. ;-)

I also prefer Win7, but for $100 less without upgrading, Vista has been fine.

My understanding was 1gb was minimum for Vista, with 2gb and you're good. (I run 6gb so have no idea firsthand.)

As far as Aero, that's more dependent on the graphics chip/memory I believe.

Win7 wasn't an option in the OP.

>Vista is a POS.

I take it's been a while since you've used Vista?
