Right after Christmas our CPC and volume both increase. We're experiencing the usual poor conversions at the tail end of December, but the increase in CPC and volume were not expected.
I just found out about this:
http://searchengineland.com/amazon-begins-testing-product-listing-ads-adwords-266542
Here is my theory: We have "enhanced" bids for our PLA ads. Amazon comes in with its billion listings at low bids. This raises the floor, and everyone with "enhanced" bids start to see an increased CPC and intern higher volume. Anybody else here managing an ecommerce site with products that overlap with Amazon and seeing the same type of thing?

I turned my shopping off at the start of December. Thats because the money was being spent on smaller items (gift type) and I was suddenly spending more on them than I was making. As there is traditionally a drop in sales of mens clothing before Christmas (Its spent on the family instead) thats no surprise, but this time the effect became unsustainable so I urned that part of PPC off.
I am looking to be able to select what goes into that feed now.. I have not had to do that before, I have just put everytrhing in. As you say, the conversions have been good, and the cost low compared to other feeds.
But I am not seeing them on the UK feeds for the searches I have tested. I do see them advertising in the usual PPC but the shopping feed is still filled with ebay sellers, but not amazon ones.
So I cannot really help over here. Its an inevitable trend I think.

I read once that Amazon stopped all ads in google as they did not want to pass their data over.
Can't find the link though.

I don't have the numbers in front of me but we did see more action from Amazon in PLA this year for the stuff we bid on.
