Pretty much as per title. I have a topic that IMO totally 'deserves' a page but on a previous attempt the editors deemed it wasn't worthy.

There was an editors discussion area within wpedia back in the day.  You might try searching (DDG, maybe) on your submitted link and see if it happens to still be public viewing. Watching their backstage discussion is how I found out that Jimmy Wales^(bastard) made the final thumbs down on my mass submittals of template-driven city sites.  (The editors were split 50/50)

It matters what industry you are in.

As an SEO they created a page about me many moons ago (only after I wrote a blog post highlighting how woefully outdated they were in the category & how biased their coverage of the category was). In writing that blog post I wasn't trying to get added to the Wikipedia, but a rare editor who liked SEO added me.

However the overall hate toward the category of SEO eventually meant the page about me got deleted. The notoriety stuff sort of went out the window. Coverage in the WSJ or even them doing an audio interview of me was dismissed as proof of efficacy of being an aggressive spammer rather than proof of notoriety.

That said, if you are in a hated field you can also have some third party add reference links to your site where you are discussing news items. If the item you are discussing is perceived as negative then maybe that link sticks out of the editor's hate for the category.

Some larger news entities can add a near infinite number of self-citations throughout the wiki.

Also worth noting the references links are not policed anywhere near as aggressively as the external links section is.

I spent 20 minutes following the Danny Sullivan saga, his frustrations and DMOZ reference were understandable. Good to get into the editors mindset.

Thankfully the item isn't SEO/marketing related, I've came up against that aggression from non-marketing techs before. Mind you, they must get a ton of spam on wiki - they (their general approach) does seem thin skinned about the topic.

I've created an account and made a small edit on a local page. Seems the way to go is (optionally) do a few edits, then create a stub page on the subject and see if it sticks
