Title: Bing Search Franchises Sending More Traffic than Bing
Post by: Brad on August 24, 2018, 02:32:00 PM
It's way too small of a sample to draw any conclusions from but I thought it interesting.

Newish blog on new domain, I  mostly get long tail type search traffic.

1. Google sends the lion's share of search traffic.  Goo also spidered first and started to rank my posts first.  Bing was much slower.
2. I could tell when Bing had updated, suddenly I was getting traffic from Duckduckgo and Qwant, both use Bing as primary for web results.
3. Duckduckgo is my number 2 SE referrer after Google significantly better than the rest. Qwant, Yahoo, Bing are also on the list, with one referral each.

I just find it interesting that my traffic from search engines that use Bing are far outstripping Bing itself.  I suspect that my posts appeal more to an alternative search engine user demographic than they do to Bing mothership users.

First thing that popped into my mind when I started reading "What's the likely demographic?"

Age? Tech?

Privacy paranoid, Tesla-like geniuses, with arcing Van De Graff generators in their living rooms, dreaming of pre-CSS HTML, retro web goodies, webmentions, webrings, directories.  :-)

IOW: either techie old farts or retro web youngsters looking to build Web 4.0.

Not liberal arts people who get weak kneed thinking about fountain pens, vellum and collecting vintage typewriters.
