First I've heard of it either. I just ran it on a site that I would call a bit of an embarrassment in terms of SEO. It scored 100.

That got me to read the rest of the page - this is just an online version of the Lighthouse tools that are packaged with Chrome. In terms of SEO, it's looking for a few basic measures of crawlability, indexability and so forth. It's not like it's pulling your backlinks and analyzing your headlines and copy and so forth.

You could think of this as a rudimentary, baseline technical SEO score. Useful for verifying that your server setup isn't jacked, not for verifying that you're going to take the #1 spot for competitive terms

Just tested another site. It got dinged on best practices because it wasn't using HTTPS

The problem is, not only does it have HTTPS available, it reliably forces all non-HTTPS traffic to HTTPS. I.e. it is correctly canonicalized to the HTTPS version.

Also read that Twitter thread and someone reported getting a 91 score on a URL that he knew was not indexable.

So I'm going to say that the "beta" designation should be an "alpha"

ergo, thanks for the report.  It makes sense, anything more than that basic info and people would use it to game Google.
