Selling Google +1s
« on: October 21, 2011, 01:33:15 AM »
All my Twitter accounts were followed by these guys selling +1s for your sites
http://www.googleplusservice.com/
How could this be worthwhile? Unless the +1 really affects the algo in some way this would be useless. +1 was only supposed to be visible in the SERPs if your friends clicked them...or have I missed something?

It sounds like it would be tough for Google to shut them down if all their +1ers are coming from phone verified accounts on different IPs.

I guess if you get enough +1's some people will start to see it in the serps. The whole six degrees of Kevin Bacon phenomenon.

Having a high +1 count on your website is also a sign of a well-liked website. Same as having lots of Fbook likes.

I would be surprised if it didn't have a small impact...

I know and thanks again Colin :)

I don't want to purchase any +1's but would like to get say 10 or even 20 - 30 from individuals as a test to see if it does make any difference to ranking

Mick, you have a small type - should be "If you're looking" not "If your looking"

Plussed it. I wonder if Google are clever enough to discount +1's from groups of people who're all connected on G+ ?

thank you Gurtie, just goes to show you can be the best in the north west when it comes to block paving but thick as f - u -c - k when it comes to joining letters together :)

the idea of the +1's is to inform your friends of good web sites but I know where your coming from with the +1's and yeah its not hard for google to run a check to find friends who have +1's a friends web site

maybe my next post will be asking how to remove +1's and get a ranking again from -1000 :)

Why purchase?  Can't you automate that with a good proxy?  Seriously.  Get a good "timer" script so +1's look real and let it rip.

well, I don't think they're that clever, and over time groups of friends should be more likely to find the site and also more likely to also like it, I guess. Which would make it very hard to detect spamming (which we are not doing obviously, beacuse Google actually suggest you may like to +1 your friends stuff, and I very much enjoyed reading your website).  ;D

I always wonder with Goog though.

You could cross reference the +1 data with other signals in an attempt to isolate fraudulent clicks along with all the other tracking they are doing with Google + accounts.  Anecodotally (UK users here?) I guess Google has been known to isolate proxies in the past (they can't get them all) and return garbage serps.

I'm sure if you were slow and patient there are ways to manipulate over time.  problem is I think most webmaster get impatient and start leaving big footprints.

I came across a site yesterday... Swapes.com... which made me think that the next major wave of blog and forum spam is likely to be pushed by swapping of social citations by intermediate sites that are in themselves sort of social.  Here's a quote from the Swapes homepage...

Quote
If you have an blog / forum, write about Swapes or worldsofting.com (include the link to our site) and we will give you one coupon code, depending of your blog / forum (age, traffic, etc), between 250 and 2500 coins. Your blog / forum need to have minimum 2 months old. If you write about Swapes or worldsofting.com on your forum, the topic need to be global. After you write about Swapes or worldsofting.com, send the link including your username to this email freecoupons@swapes.com and we will send you the coupon code.

Coins/coupon credits are good for Likes, +1s, etc.  Just to be clear, I'm not in this game, and I suspect it will fail because of low reputation and self-control among the clickers... but it is more likely than many schemes I've seen to get around the location issues.
