New EU based Search Engine - Findx.com
« on: October 03, 2018, 01:35:36 PM »
The Vikings are at it again.  Coming out of Denmark is https://www.findx.com/ a new beta search engine.  I have not really had a chance to look at it so I don't know if they are trying to confine themselves to the EU or aiming for global.  Either way it's good news.

They are using a fork of Gigablast, I'm hoping they will improve on Gigablast's algo which I always thought fell short.

Feels quick. Looks like it uses gigablast under the hood as you say. There's definitely a thriving ecosphere for the 'alternates'.

Apparently this one has been around a fair while.

A couple of quick searches. It feels like it's more gameable than Google. By which I mean to say that people I know who have done strategic link building seem to be doing well, whereas the results that humans would probably put at #1 are down the page a surprising amount.

Which is good news/bad news I guess.

I wonder what a #1 ranking on FindX is worth (i.e. #100 on Google? #52? #522?)

I was looking at their forums and they are having the same problem Mojeek had/has: they find many of the premier sites block nearly everything but Googlebot and Bingbot and many flatly refuse to allow entry or just ignore requests.

This does represent an opportunity for 2nd and 3rd tier mag review type sites to be on the 1st couple of pages of the serps, which normally have C-net, and a host of others hogging the top 20.  Some of those lower tier sites have good articles - that is what I learned using Mojeek.

Of course some sources are irreplaceable like NYTimes, The Times, etc.

Anyway that may be causing problems.

After 3 years, Danish based search engine Findx shuts down. Bummer.

Kinda interesting reading.

Hmm, same people, results from Bing.   Their About page says they have more stuff in the works but they can't tell us about it now.

At least it keeps the domain alive with a placeholder engine.
