Specific domain extension?
« on: December 02, 2010, 10:19:06 AM »
I was struggling the other day with the lack of creativity on this matter - can anybody help me with an idea on how can we research sites with specific domain extension only?

It's about an unpopular country extension - something similar to .tm (Turkmenistan). I need to create a list of niche sites with this specific domain, so actually  it's not that "site:.." does not work, but believe it or not, when I write lets say "site:.tm "target kw"" it gives out few sites with this particular DE, but most are still TLD

There is a slight chance that this is simply the amount of .tm sites which treats this argument :) I just wanted to know though if exist another way to check this out

my goal here would be exactly that :)

That is very interesting suggestion and I'm prone to try it, thank you for the nice and detailed explanation. I'm a bit confused about something though; assuming you get this list (extracted from a particular block) you will get a list of sites with EVERYTHING in it, right? I never managed such a gigantic list but I assume it has thousands and thousands of sites - in the example you gave, the report would contain 102 000 entries. And since they aren't targeted, you need to manually check them in order to filter them by argument and then by anything else as well - my point being, that's quite an amount - would it be time-effective?

I think this sounds like a job for Scrapebox.

If you have a massive list of 'full' IPs, you can build a search list like this:

IP:78.129.129.127 Widgets
IP:78.129.129.128 Widgets
IP:78.129.129.129 Widgets
.... etc

And it will scrape everything, dedupe it, check PR etc

NB. All the above is 'in theory' - not tried this exact exercise myself

I don't code, but I would buy/order such a tool - the dilemma whether is worth getting it vs doing stuff manually doesn't even exist considering the quantity :)

Thank you again Jason, I think I'll definitely try this approach as soon as I get the tool done for me. I think few other things can be added on the theme detection feature - specifically, I'm having  the domain extensions in mind, since this was the request it all started about, but either way what you've listed is probably enough.

About ScrapeBox suggestion - it's a good idea too. Unfortunately right now I can't exploit the program - I used it on another pc yesterday and now on my own I'm getting this message "sorry, yr free monthly transfer of license has been already used... you loser!". So when i get it back, I'll try it and say if this can work as well. I think it could; SB can be used in so many ways! I recently tried it for competitor BL research (using link: custom footprint with yahoo data ) and can say it works very efficiently as it's harvesting links at once for all of them.
