Agree the MSM man probably lacks the understanding of the reality of what a meta search engine is, as much as he's throwing a billion about. Apple buying out DDG sounds dangerous. Their traffic is worth that but perhaps the leverage on that deal wrt MSFT would make it impossible.
On a separate strain look at Huawei, they're selling a huge amounts of phones but due to the US embargo they can't deal with US companies, including search engines. It's interesting. They've made a deal with Qwant, so there's a fair bit of movement on the mobile space. Apparently they sell 50K devices in the UK every week.
For me, if there's opportunities to diversify which search results are provided that's probably a good thing. Looking a G's earnings, you could split that up between many engines and it'd be perfectly economical, and show more slices of what's out there.
