Seems like a lot for just materials, no?

I like the layout, it would be nice for a single person or a couple.  If you put a covered patio on the roof then you could run solar panels.  I agree that the price seems high, but then everything is these days.

These threads always get me excited, then disappointed when I start looking into the details.

It's not exactly "just the materials" it seems. The "steel frames" are delivered somewhat similar to SIPs or even pr-made stick frame wall sections.

The Q on the on the manufacturer's FAQ has photos.

Still, it's a pretty raw product and seems pricey for what you get.

A friend is building a house about 50m away and she is using a steel-stud SIP system. In that case, it comes with the insulation, electric and plumbing chases and a few other things. She is acting as the general contractor, but has hired a framing crew who has used the system before and they are telling her they will take seven days to go from deliver to ready for roofing. I'll ask her for details. I know she priced out many different options and settled on that.

I have no plan to build anything, but we came really really close to using SIPs to build our house, but there were some supply issues and major shipping expenses that made it relatively expensive at the time. I still second guess that decision, which I guess is why I'm still fascinated by the topic. It just blows me away that every option still seems more expensive and, if you're lucky, marginally faster than site-built stick frame construction.
