One needs to be able operate a real rod. It's a life skill. Using this would make you a target to bullies?

In the 60s if you'd taken one of those out on a public pier, one of the stubble-bearded, beer-drinking, old-timers would have thrown you over the side. That's if you were lucky. Otherwise, you'd have been cut up for bait.

Nowadays, we're sadly lacking in stubble-bearded, beer-drinking, old-timers.

This group still thrives on southern-NC public piers. They stare disapprovingly at photographers. I shoot fast, then I get the heck out of there.

That is what I want to be in a couple of years from now.  Happily throwing quniona chompin, skinny jeans wearing people who are drinking $10 coffees that took two minutes to order, off the pier.

Wow, thought that was a fake viral video.  Seems like this would violate various fishing laws.

I just took a kid fishing. Casting a rod is a huge deal for kids. They care about that more than actually catching fish. They would rather cast all day and catch nothing then feel bad about NOT catching fish later than let you cast it for them to help.

No self respecting kid would use such a device to fish.

In my late teens, I used to party hard out on our (now resort) coastal islands.  One pier had a greasy restaurant & beer bar. In the morning I usually looked as if I fit right in with the stubble-beards (though I had a baby-face). They let me stay.

BTW, Trav, we're down to about half -maybe less- of the piers we had back in the 60s.  And some of the remaining ones are shorter after taking hits from hurricanes.

WTF?! That aint no fishing rod!
That's "making me get out of this chair and giving you a stern woopin'"!

Amen to that. I'm working on keeping up the dwindling numbers though.

But the real rednecks would see that and say "hold my beer, I got a spud gun in the garage".

Hmmm, when I was a kid I used illegal South Carolina M-80s to get my minnows for bait.
