Hasn't this long been true? It's one of the reasons that if jurisdictions ban sales of *new* ICE cars in, say, 2030, it will take until while after 2040 to have a majority EV global fleet

It's newer than either of my cars ;-)
Though, looking at prices finally starting to fall, I hope I will not be saying that in the relatively near future. Unfortunately, many people seem to have come to the same conclusion that I (and RC) have: they are not ready for a full EV, but don't want pure ICE, so they're looking at PHEV. My last trip to a car lot (yesterday) revealed many pure ICE and many pure EVs that you can drive away with today (a big change from a year ago), but sparse to no pickings in the PHEV supply.
