I was just going to post something about this when the following came across my feed.  Saves keystrokes.

I've read other vaccinologists who say they same thing.

The states are prioritizing fair, when they should be prioritizing fast (you can quote me on that).

As you posted earlier, it takes time to get ramped up.  ...and to figure out that -yep- we screwed that up.

I *think* we're making progress here in NC, as I've seen reports of hospitals canceling vaccine appointments as the governor has redirected shipments to mass vaccination sites like our ground-breaking (?) National Guard drive-through clinic.

We're a techie family, and it was still hard to keep up with how/when/where the vaccinations would be done.  Anecdotal info from my wife's FB group -mostly over 65- gave me real concern that the government simply wasn't getting the message out as the great majority of the 'outreach' was being done via gov websites and online forms.  This just didn't work, IMO.  Though I realize the old newspaper/tv/radio media have been disrupted, they might still have been the best way to reach the oldsters.

I signed up my 89 yr old mother for a shot appt online.  She's never touched a computer.  The process online was a bit confusing for me so I can only imagine what it would be like for somebody that barely knows how to turn a computer on.

The optional part of the registration, getting details like Dr. name, allergies, Medicare, I skipped because I don't have those details for her.  This means filling in the stuff on a clipboard which slows the process down.

There are no mass drive-up vaccination centers here.  As far as I could tell all eight centers near her require you to park in a vast parking lot and enter a building, which is another barrier for the elderly.  This may be because we are not getting enough vaccine doses IDK.

Her appt. is a month from now.

This system is not going to work for the general public.

More stories hitting my feed.

“It is a clunky system. Nobody likes it. The hospitals don’t like it, the providers don’t like it, the users don’t like it, DHEC doesn’t like it,” Taylor told state lawmakers last Thursday. “This is not a good system.”

DHEC plans to make COVID vaccine registration easier

I do hope in the next category of eligibility to open that they include essential workers like grocery store workers.  Those folks are not making much money and they have been standing by their posts with little in the way of a safety net for a year now.

They need to get the shot before me.
