It would be nice to subdue cravings. My main motivation though would be to induce some autophagy.
That would be my motivation for trying it more seriously. Tim Ferriss' interviews with Peter Attia, Dom d'Agostino and Rhonda Patrick have gotten me curious, I just haven't done it.
When I was around 20, one of my things to do was to take one emergency apple and a liter of water and go hiking Friday night to Sunday sometime. I was trying to see how little I could get by on, so sometimes I would leave the sleeping bag at home and spent some cold nights in basically a sweater and a raincoat (extra cold because of the lack of calories).
I toned it down one time after I got to my destination using an old guidebook, and realized the trail I was hiking had been abandoned many years ago (so no chance of someone finding me if something happened). More importantly, the water source at my campsite had dried up. So I was hungry and dehydrated. The first morning it was cold and so foggy, everything was getting wet, so I added cold to the list. I started having halucinations and hearing voices. The most disconcerting of all was that I didn't have a watch and because of the fog, I couldn't tell if it was 9am or 3pm.
So as I was spiraling down and trying to make the decision whether to wait it out or see if it got better, I was afraid to stay in case it was already getting late and I would have to hike the abandoned trail in the dark. So I pulled the plug and busted for the car. Of course, it was early still - I got there early afternoon on what was by then a bright sunny day.
Lesson learned. I always carried a watch a bit of emergency food after that.
The follies of youth. Of course, that "practice" served me well on the times later when I needed to make unplanned bivies with no food, water or camping gear. It's good to know what you can handle.
