>>>>>Is air conditioning helping spread COVID in the South?

No air conditioning at swimming pools and those people in Arkansas or whatever got it.

It's all about the lack of masks. The AC could contribute to it but ultimately, it's the lack of masks. Remember those hair stylists in Missouri or wherever who had 144 clients and nobody caught the virus? They were wearing masks.

People in the BLM protesters in masks didn't generate a surge in infections.

People going to the beach and the bars without masks got infected.

The math on that is pretty simple, even I can do it.

Yeah, masks seem to work and their lack of use is part of the American tragedy.   It is not 100% on Trump though; Dr Fauci, the WHO and the CDC discouraged mask use early on too.

Re AC, I came across this the other day:
How can airborne transmission of COVID-19 indoors be minimized?

Apparently many HVAC systems can be regulated as to how much recycled vs fresh are they use.  I am not seeing it get much attention, but a simple requirement to have those systems pump fresh are would be a painless way to make public indoor spaces a little safer.

Yeah, I think fresh air heat exchangers may be code for some new, tight, ultra-insulated buildings (ex: SIPS, urethane foam).  Personally, I'm not keen on it otherwise. Adds complexity and reduces efficiency.

For home AC, you can check with your local dealer.  Chances are you can add UV to the system.  I have a UV unit on the Bryant furnace in one of my homes.

Dessicant AC systems are cheap and easy to make.
