We have replacing what we've eaten as we've gone along -- eating the oldest stuff and getting new reserves.

I'm still stockpiling now that the stuff Amazon was out of in the Spring is back in stock.  It's a good thing I like SPAM (the other kind) cos I got a case or more.

For local stuff I've been using Instacart and it seems like the grocery stores are stocking less variety of items and are focusing on the staples that are in demand.

Last week, I noticed that some always-in-stock AmzPantry items were out. At the time, I wrote it off as a fluke.

Was this Covid stockpiling, or fear of unrest after the election?

I know a lot of people who were planning to avoid shopping in town for a week if need be after the election. At least it hasn't come to that so far.

I think it is in anticipation of the new wave of covid infections. I saw the first mention of this trending a couple of weeks before the election.  Earlier articles said that the food industry was caught off-guard when the first lockdown cleaned out their shelves and they weren't going to miss the SALES opportunity the next time.

...And yet another article.

'Last week on a quarterly earnings call, Clorox announced that it is "still not at a point where we can fully meet ongoing elevated demand."'

Last week, when picking up the grocery order from Walmart, the picker commented that they were out, or nearly out, of a number of popular items.

Today, Amz Pantry's availability of items I routinely purchase was noticeably sparse.

Everything I've read says the supply chain is holding up OK, but you might want to add some lead time or depth of inventory to your must-have items.

>add some lead time

I'm trying to do this with Christmas gifts before they sell out or suffer shipping delays.

Stockpiling & hoarding don't seem to be the problem this time.

Over the last week there have been multiple reports of grocery shelves being empty-ish.  Most have been attributed to worker shortage at the stores as well as up the supply chain.  Yep, confirmed it today at the local Food Lion and Aldi --lots of bare spots.
