Cricket in the USA?

Cricket might be gaining a foothold in the US.  We will see.  Also, I didn't know Canada played.

Even if it catches on in the US at a grass roots level it will be decades before we can take on cricket superpowers UK, India and Australia.

Back in my first hotel job in the mid-80s this older British guy was in the lounge watching baseball while doing crossword puzzles and he said something like this:

“The secret to getting through a baseball game is a good crossword. Cricket. Now watching a cricket game requires a crossword and a fifth of vodka.”

Heh.  I once asked a couple of British friends on a forum about cricket and one said, "you might just skip to the nap half way through."

Of all the sports to import I never imagined cricket.  They might carve out a niche.

The others:

Rugby has a good chance of catching on.  Everybody wants to see NZ play.

La cross has gained popularity on a grass roots level.  They started a youth league here a couple of years ago and it's gaining popularity.  (Which is amazing because the Midwest is usually behind by 5 - 10 years.)  It looks like a good sport.

F1 racing has caught on in the US and is growing rapidly, or so I'm told.  This is a good thing, I think.

Cricket and T20 is huge down here in South African and especially in Cape Town... I have a feeling if the T20 world cup attracts any of the run scores like it did in the most recent IPL season (Indian Premier League) then the USA crowds are in for a good time.

The Springboks (current world cup holders) play the All Blacks in September here in Cape Town, my name is down for 8 tickets.. just sitting tight to see if my name is drawn from the lottery system.

I heard about this. And then thought,”We have a Cricket team?”

Apparently, we do and they are really good. I wonder where they are based out of? Are they an Olympic team?

I’d watch them! I think it’s super cool that the Tribe that invented the sport wants to play in the Olympics. It should have happened years ago.
