I guess Coke and Pepsi's quest to use more recycled plastic is worthy as an interim measure, but it would be better to just phase out as much plastic as possible.

Bases on Ergo's comments about recycling and plastics in another thread here, I switched from buying soft drinks in plastic to aluminum cans.  Aluminum gets recycled.

Ha! You know... I sometimes think, why write all that up for a forum? But the answer I came back with is that people here are open to new information and often present new information that changes my thinking. This is a great place for that.

And as you know, I've changed my thinking a LOT regarding recycling lately. We actually quit buying bottled soft drinks a while ago except in rare circumstances. We use a carbonator (not a Soda Stream... some other brand I forget). I'm preferring tin/steel/aluminum over plastic and glass.

BTW - One of the interviews that I listened to with an environmental economist had a segment where he laid out how it's actually worse to put plastic in the recycling bin than in the trash, but when pressed, he admitted that he personally found it hard and was still putting more in recycling than he should. That made me feel better - even the top experts in the world struggle with their personal habits on this.

Ergo - Your post also made me rethink plastics:  I now only put #1 plastics in the recycle bin, the rest go in the trash because I don't like the idea of shipping our plastics off to the developing world where they may or may not get recycled, nor do i like the idea that many American recyclers are burning excess plastics.  So, yes, your posts do have an impact and I thank you.

For a long time, I've been buying  recycled products, particularly paper, to complete the circle.  It costs more but I think it's worth it.
