Blu-ray players?
« on: November 15, 2019, 11:46:57 AM »
It seems I need to buy a blu-ray player.  Simple, sturdy, reliable is what I want.  Any brands preferred or to stay away from?

I have a cheap one...  £40 panasonic, still works 3 years on.  Cannot comment on colours/detail.... goes to a projector. looks fine.  Ethernet connection too.  works on ordinary discs too.

For whatever reason, the ones we put in the rental tend to go bad. Doesn't matter which brand. Doesn't matter if it was the expensive Sony or the cheap Samsung.

My bias is conditioned by the usage, but I would simply say to find the one with the fewest possible features. Usability scales in inverse proportion to features IME

I had a Sony BDP something that lasted around eight or nine years. It cost around a hundred bucks when I bought it. Finally this year stopped playing Blu Rays...
