BUT

Zuckerberg says employees moving out of Silicon Valley may face pay cuts
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/21/zuckerberg-50percent-of-facebook-employees-could-be-working-remotely.html

Zuck is correct that the current pay is partially determined by local cost-of-living, but this is not going to go over well with employees hoping to game the system by moving to a LCOL area.

Depends on the deal, but on the face of it it a no brainer... move, unless you are scared of loosing your job.

On Reddit the other day was a warning that if you manage to convince your employer that you can do you job from home, with no loss of productivity, your job can be done from any country.

A cheaper country.

tbf timezones and cultural differences will take a toll

Looking at job ads over the years though for me, it does seem like "if you want London wages, go to London"- saying that from one of the lower paid parts of the UK. Wonder how the FB employees will react, is a part of it the 'prestige' of being a high dollar earner, in an 'elite' neighbourhood or is it about quality of life. Maybe a lot of these social barriers will start shifting the next 12/24 months.

Twitter, Shopify and now Facebook. The future is here. Some office buildings will need to be converted to residential. Movement of families away from cities?

Residential real estate buyers: "Does it have two offices?"

As an employer, it is a pretty good deal if you can off-load your property requirements, utilities, maintenance, taxes, security, & overhead to your employee.

They should stay at home.

There's no way on IT God's Earth that FB employees should be allowed out, in the wild, along with others, part of nature and other such phrases or places.

They should keep their data-stealing, lowest-common-denominator-algorithm-coding, marketing-101 arseholes out of the way of the rest of us.

Only online accountants are worse.
