The Core

Not too bad where I am - we had about 6 to 8 inches of snow, and the local motorway was blocked for a while, but apart from that seems Ok.

I am still hoping to make my 5 hour drive to the 'back of bloody beyondsville' that my wife has booked us into for Christmas.


My real worry is that I may get snowed in once I am there - the thought of being snowed in with no internet connection is a bit of a nightmare.

Still, will taking plenty of strong spirits in case the worst happens - hopefully this will enable me to induce a coma that lasts till the thaw.

Yeah, got a fair amount again in the last few days. Nothing we can't handle though, we're used to it.

Getting some good sledging done.  Lucy and I built a triple jump the other day. 

Its a bit thin on the ground at the mo, so could do with more now. (snow that is)   Orders have about dried up for Christmas now, (Last thus night it fell of a cliff for me, but I was not shouting from the rooftops about Christmas deliveries)

It snowed in Osaka about 10 years ago and accumulated to a depth of about 1cm. The whole city nearly shut down.

it would be a lot simpler if people had snow tyres. And brains.

We had to cancel our trip at the weekend, I doubt the builders will arrive today (I forgive them that actually, can't be much fun leading a roof in -9 and snowing!) and we're making alternative plans in case we end up at home (or worse, the airport) for Christmas.  But the sledging is fun and its beautifully quiet. Could do with a couple of weeks of this every year!

I know. The brains thing was just stupid

Its not the same here as other places though - the comparisons with Scandinavia and Canada etc are pointless - we do have a different type of snow (wetter) although this time its almost the dry powdery stuff, but the real problem is that its warmer here - our lane is dry packed snow and perfectly drivable in any car, for example, but out the front of the house where the sun hit yesterday we have a beautiful skating rink, now covered with an inch of new snow. Cold for us means not going above -2 and that still turns into ice. Cold where it doesn't get above -10 seems to be a lot easier underfoot!

And of course we all act like wimps because we know everything shuts down... I *could* have got the bus this morning, but I'm pretty sure they'll stop running before 6 so I wouldn't be able to get home. On that basis I stayed home anyway. We just shut the country down through some self fulfilling circle.

5 above! blimey, if it gets that cold over here, we yelp!  That's like -15 Celsius.
