How Do You Reward Yourself?
« on: January 30, 2011, 08:51:35 PM »
Do you do anything to celebrate after you make a deal or hit a milestone in your business?  I donít mean big spending treats, just small things that mean a lot to you.

I always fancy having a cigarette but resist as it took a while to give up.  I might have to invest in some good cigars though.  I like a good malt whisky, but that is probably too regular to be a one off treat.

What do you do to reward yourself?

take the family out for a meal :)
I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible. But, pissing everyone off is a piece of cake!

Go out w a bunch of crazy brazilians, hit the beach, a few bars, then some strip clubs and get absolutely sh## faced fall down drunk, end up at some afterparty at 7am completely wacked... or, go out to dinner and maybe get some ribs and a baked potato.

nope, I think some of them are married too...

ehheehhe, look, I won't say that doesn't even happen, but I swear I don't start the night off with that in mind.

... Seriously I think a good meal is about all I would ever plan on.  Something nice about a simple meal... you are in control of everything... the restaurant, the plate you order, you know that you wont have issues, and it will conclude with you satisfied.  The same can't be said about women:)

What are we celebrating, anyway?

Jason thats the second time you mentioned having a wank! I hope everythings ok mate :)

Not always a reward, but I take the morning off and go bodyboarding - really clears the mind (you can only think about one thing when a 6ft wave is heading your way) or can be a good reward, depends how I feel.

I like that bobyboard idea...

Seems to me if you work really hard, then you should let yourself off the hook and rest and relaxation seem in order. Whatever that happens to be for you, but a change of scenery seems in order.

I remember back in the 90s when I started making money online and it was still kinda dream, I would take random days off and I would go to the little local ski slope in PA (one hill) and I taught myself how to snow board for no real reason. I only went about 5x, took no classes, talked to no one, met no one, just enjoyed the mountain during the week when most others were working...

Kinda similar...

Thai Food
Malt Whisky
A good bottle of port or madeira

... are the things I use to reward myself when something has gone really well.

OTOH - they are also the things I go for when things have gone badly... and often to cheer myself up when things have been boring.

Get out in nature - running, hiking, skiing, rock climbing. Small victory and I take a few hours. Big victory and I take a few days. Incidentally, I treat my defeats pretty much the same way.  Sun or storm. Few things I enjoy more than being out in the woods in a wild winter storm (I bet dogboy can relate).

As John Muir said

Quote
Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

There is a love of wild nature in everybody, an ancient mother-love evre showing itself whether recognized or no, and however covered by cares and duties.

Or another one from John Muir
Quote
I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in.

I remember a couple of years ago rewarding myself with a "quick" cross-country ski after reaching some goal. I had planned to go out for 45 minutes and brought no food and only a half liter of water. But once out, I couldn't turn around. Came home hungry and tired, but greatly restored, having traveled 22 miles.

A round of golf would be a great way to celebrate for me. Doesn't even have to be with anyone. I am more than happy to just get out on the course by myself.

Either that or a nice big steak.

For me it's time with the kids... and when I've had enough of them I reward myself with time away from them in the office!
