How US airlines rank with customers
« on: April 28, 2017, 01:17:15 AM »
NFFC and I were discussing US airlines while in Wilmington.

Quote
The report is based on customer interviews over a 12-month period that ended in March, so responses didn't capture recent high-profile incidents like United's, or Delta's (DAL) awful weekend of massive flight cancellations brought on by bad weather.

Rank/%change since last poll

JetBlue: 82, +2%
Southwest: 80, 0%
Alaska: 78, +1%
American: 76, +6%
Delta: 76, +7%
All Others: 74, 0%
Allegiant: 71, +9%
United: 70, 3%
Frontier: 63, -5%
Spirit: 61, -2%

Southwest and JetBlue are the two airlines I like to stick to whenever possible.

Me: SW, AA. I'll add JB to the mix.

The retired bishop of Rupertsland, Walter Jones, used to fly a lot between Toronto and Winnipeg. On his homeward trips he'd make a point of quietly saying to the desk staff that if they needed someone to relinquish their seat he'd be happy to take the next flight. Over the years he collected thousands of dollars worth of flight vouchers and occasional cash which he used sometimes for church business and sometimes for family travel.

Having learned that from him, I've done it myself a few times ... proactively volunteered to relinquish my seat. I never got cash but I did score some juicy flight coupons and once, a free night in a luxurious Toronto hotel.

>I've done it myself a few times

We used to do it any time we weren't on a schedule. Back 20 yrs ago, we could score free tickets just by delaying until the next flight --usually only 2-3 hrs. Then everybody got savvy and we 'won' far less often.
