I couldn't help myself: more toys

Always wanted this little thing...

...lights stuff up with a blinding 200 lumens...

...or, if you click it 2X, it gives you a low light (5 lumen) beam.  It can also be attached to my shotgun, with a special mount:)

...other cool gifts were an Otis gun cleaning kit and a massive Nat Geo World Atlas, which I just love.

Love it. 200 lumens is crazy bright and looks like a nice beem.

>200 lumens is crazy bright
when I said blinding, I wasn't kidding.  That picture of the beam was in the daylight in a normally (low) lit corner of the house, not at night.

It'll look something like this...

Other than attaching this to a shotgun, is this thing supposed to be used as a weapon of some sort, or is it just a bright flashlight?

Its supposed to be used as  weapon.

The serrated edges are generally advertised as "DNA Catchers" - IE blind the perp with the light in their eyes then bring the torch cowel down into their face, ripping bits of flesh off in the process!

Nice mount :D

Looks like with yours you can take the lens off and use it as a candle.  I can do that with mine but it doesn't have the flat bottom like yours so wont stand up on its own.  I keep looking at torches.. really want a 1000+ lumen one just to see how bright it can get.

>a weapon of some sort

Well, just about anything can be used as a weapon... ummm, but yeah, like Jason said, this one makes for a pretty good weapon.... unless it's attached to the end of my shotgun, in which case, you got other things to worry about:)

But that's not really why I bought it.  Flashlights are just handy to have around. I keep them in the car, under the seat of my motorcycle, with my camping equipment, in my nightstand, etc, just like Leatherman tools.... I must have 3 of those floating around too.

This one uses lithium batteries with a shelf life of 10 yrs, which helps with making sure its ready when you need it, and it really shines like a huge mag light but it can fit in your shirt pocket.  The button on the end cap helps with one handed operation.  I also like that it has a high and a low output so you can use it to work without blinding yourself. And unlike my other flashlights, it's also designed to take shock, so it can be attached to gun.

We've had 2 instances in this house where something crashed and woke us up and I ended up having to clear the house before my girl would go back to sleep... and for some reason the light switches are not close to our room, so you have some darkness to deal with until you can start flipping switches.  Normally, I can negotiate the obstacles at night by memory but when I came out barrel first, I realized I really couldn't see anything and decided it was time to add a hands free weapons light to the Mossberg.

Anyway, I have a short list of consumer garbage that I like, but am too cheap to buy, and decided I was going to scratch another off the list.  I think the only other thing on it now is a small pair of Zeiss binoculars I could use for bird watching, or whatever, that I've wanted since I was like 12yrs old.

A $150 flashlight?
You piqued my interest though...I watched a few videos and read a couple of reviews. That's a badass flashlight. One guy was saying that the TSA doesn't confiscate these so he brings them when he flies. Wild.

In a bunker in Ft Lauderdale ;D

heeheh no, I'm just on the insecure side and have a future wife to protect.  I actually live in a nice area but unfortunately it also makes it an occasional target for thieves that drive around and target places, so I know of some people on my street that had break ins while they were home. I also had a neighbor barricade himself in his house and had to be extracted by the swat team after he threatened to kill my other neighbors, so you never know where trouble can come from...

I never was a boy scout but always liked to be prepared since I can first remember.  I got my first rifle at 7yrs old, grew up in the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and later spent close to 15 years solo in the backcountry, and so I've run into everything from bears in my tent, mountain lions in my camp, and charging moose.  I've also had people try to break into our house up North 2X and even had a guy hold a switchblade to my neck, who was trying to steal my jacket... as well as having another bald headed lunatic come after me down here (remember that post?)... so I've had a few run ins with bad people, as well as dangerous game.

Now that I've gotten a bit older, I'm definitely 'safer' than I was by myself in the sticks, but I'm used to keeping a gun of some sort near my bed and I sleep better that way.  Hell, I'm not sure if you saw it in the news but 20 miles from here a naked man was shot and killed 2 days ago after he chewed 70% of another man's face off - welcome to South Florida!

Anyway, I know everyone has opinions on this subject, but I can tell you from experience that until you have been truly afraid for your life, terrified, cowering in fear, will you really appreciate the desire to be armed.  Luckily I've only been in that situation a few times... and besides that MF that tried to steal my jacket, I was armed... which is why I have a concealed carry permit today.  But you cant go into bars in Florida with a gun, which is why I have a knife. And now I have a nicer knife:)

So, like I said, the flashlight is just for fun. If I use for defense, it means I probably already shot the guy and stabbed him in the neck:)

Interesting experiences.  Living in the south west of england where the biggest threat is an elderly driver who mistook the accelerator for a brake pedal, its pretty safe.  I've been threatened a few times but always managed to talk myself out of it and I guess just been lucky when walking around major cities.
Here if I have a dangerous looking torch then the police can arrest me so I prefer things that don't look dangerous.  That's why I like the Jap flat tipped blades, because they don't look like they are made for stabbing.  Reason I like to carry a small knife is just because I've needed a knife so many times.  Eg when changing a car battery with only a spanner, a knife was very handy in cutting the zipties and tape the previous owner used.

You must have very baggy jeans to carry all that!

The best tool in the world for what you are talking about is a Leatherman.  I absolutely love mine.

But maybe the best weapon you can carry is a cane.  A cane is basically the only weapon you can take anywhere, anytime, and no one can make them illegal.  There is a whole martial art to the cane in Japan.

>baggy jeans
well, the light just happened to be in the pic because I was just playing with it. The beretta lives in my left pocket, the knife in my right, cell phone and wallet in my back pockets. If I wanted to carry my bigger pistol, you need an inside the waist band holster. But I don't because usually I'm just going to the store, not to war.
