My first employee
« on: January 25, 2012, 10:30:59 AM »
I hope this doesn't come across as boasting.  I am not like that.

I have just agreed terms to take on my first employee.  This is such a milestone for me and my business that I just had to share it.

Having have had little luck with VA's, this will help me move all of the daily jobs and get working on the next big ideas again.  Of course I have worries, but the time feels right to take the risk.

So, at last it has grown beyond me.  A very hard and slow road and there is still a long way to go, but days like this when you realise one of your dreams make it all worth while.

Congratulations - big milestone.
Of course this also marks the end of your doing "real work" and now being a manager.

Well done :-)

Double check the arrangements and the description.

For example, one mistake I made was to take on a sales and ops combined role, my job effectively. Performance related, so it dawned on me that he would favour sales over service, as sales is where the commission comes in. Plus what about the business I had already got, should he get a cut of that.

I rushed in a and it cost me, wont make that mistake again.

Just double check and get someone else to look it over.

Hope it goes well.

Awesome. It's tough to handle employees, but can be very rewarding if you hire the right ones :)

Ah, that moment... yes scarey, but good. Well done.  8)

my first employee was Sue, my wife.....  kinda different, but it meant she had to pack in her job to help.

Still not far past that post, myself and I still don't like the responsibility, or the feeling that I have to lead by example. Sometimes, when I want to  go off on my bike, I feel I shouldn't (Still do though)

So if you were asking for advice, (Your not, but you get it anyway).

Make sure you still enjoy the freedom of being self employed.  you still are.
... Make sure you live before you die.
