Fun and cool!
I used to have my grandmother's sewing machine but alas, it disappeared when we had renters for a couple of years. The brand was Raymond.
I console myself with the thought that if the power grid died I could rig up some sort of belt to drive the wheel on my mother's Elna sewing machine which I use regularly.
I've had some golden bonding moments with grandkids, teaching them some basic sewing and design skills. Note that I said grandkids, not just granddaughters! They've all done simple projects, mostly things that we can make with straight lines and rectangles, with special attention to cutting things so the patterns will match on the finished project. Even three-year-old Kate steered some of the stitching on her special pink tote bag! We've also done toy repairs ranging from stitching a ripped seam in a stuffed dinosaur's back to sewing new button eyes on a stuffed rabbit.
I think it's a valuable life lesson to cultivate both the skills and the confidence make things and fix things.
