My new client - the cardboard box company.
« on: March 06, 2015, 08:11:22 AM »
I recently took on a new client that's a cardboard box company. True to the spirit of cardboard box companies around the world, they are totally stuck in the past.

I emailed the guy a candidate list of search-terms (a surprisingly competitive world, the world of cardboard boxes), asking him to highlight the ones he felt were the most relevant.

I was very surprised a few hours later when my inbox had 15 emails from his secretary, each with a 7MB PDF, which was a couple of pages that he'd actually printed off, ticked off with a pen and then got the secretary to scan in and email to me!

Needless to say, i have now improved their workflow.

Sounds like a solicitor I hired once.  Would have all her emails printed off in the morning then dictate responses to her secretary in the afternoon which she should type up and send next day.  "Hired once" is the important bit here.

My neighbor types up letters on his typewrite and then gives them to his wife who then types them up as an email -- he's about 70 years old.

Related: In general, the baby-boom generation seems to be technologically challenged more the the previous generation.  My grand father was an early adopter of many technologies, I remember him having a 286 laptop.

Cardboard boxes.. Had one of those clients back in 2001! I cannot remember for the life of me what happened. so I guess it is getting quite competitive.  Whats not?

good client to get.  Well done :)
