The program, believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, involves setting up automated high-speed cameras on highways around the state to detect uninsured vehicles and mailing their owners a citation with a fine of $184

Just taken 2 speeding tickets in the UK.

Just completed my £90 education course for the first, speeding on a "smart" motorway. The smart motorways scan your plate, look up the type of vehicle, and so know what speed you should do on a national speed limit zone, where cars, vans and trucks all have differt speed limits.

They also reduce speeds to stop bottle necks automatically, by measuring the volume of traffic in different part of the road system. They can do this automatically down to 40mph, where humans take over the controls to reduce speeds further, if for example there is an on coming vehicl in your lane.

See officer, I was listening.

They wont need it when we have driverless vehicles. Or will they? Its probably set to be the command centre, but the data comes from the cars not the sensors on the roads.

We got automatic speeding cameras here for a while. Just like pulling the jackpot for the state:

Yes, to catch those driving without insurance.  It's a big problem here. IIRC, it's said 35% of vehicles in my state are uninsured.  I expect the reason these cams are targeting the uninsured rather than, say, speeding, is because it is a cut-n-dried violation attributed to a specific vehicle in most jurisdictions.

Driverless will just be taxis/uber/leased.  Insurance will be tied to the purchase rent imho.

They will take all the fun out of it.
