Contracts have been put out to tender that could see half of the extra 5,000 GPs promised by 2020 brought in from abroad.

start recruiting in the autumn with EU doctors being targeted first.

Article DOES NOT mention how much the doctors will be PAID.

That is one VERY IMPORTANT issue!

>paid
I can tell you that it will be less than a doctor makes here in the US and more than a doctor makes in Poland.  And even more than a doctor makes in Pakistan or India.

I posted this because back in EU meetup 2003-ish the Eurotrash & I discussed one of the then growing problems in their single-payer health system; doctors are capitalists and will move to the money.

There's ZERO question that the healthcare system here is predatory when it comes to pricing.  I'll add that a doc here seeing 150 patients per day (really, I got that figure from a pharm salesman) doesn't have much time to be a GOOD doctor.

A friend of mine in college refused to write the "save the world" med school essay. He wrote that he loved science, didn't want a desk job and wanted to make a good living. Years later, despite himself, he ended up working on a reservation and struggling to find other docs. One day he said to me "I want to know where all those people are who said on their med school essays that they wanted to save the world, because they aren't showing up at my reservation!"
